10-05-05 - Laurent Germain Maury directs Féodor Atkine, Sophie Renoir,Olivier Sitruk, Arsène Jiroyan and Denis Sebbah in a fantasy thriller. End of the shooting in HD of the short film, adaptation of the comic strip from Christophe Chabouté , « Divination », directed by Laurent Germain Maury (Diesel Nostalgie). HD camera, epoch wardrobe, incredible make-up, natural set up, the enigmatic Féodor Atkine and Sophie Renoir, forty extra : every little thing was here to create the dark universe of the strange in this historical thriller. The Conseil Régional de Picardie was so seduced by this project that it invests in the production. Winter 1850… A dark and rainy atmosphere. The Ziegler Circus carriage scours the French countryside from one village to another. A smooth talker clown with a satanic smile on his face, an androgynous necromancer, a fire-burster cyclops, a half-monkey fakir, the Ziegler Circus is a fabulous show of the strange. As many curiosities as villagers who disappear suddenly right after the carriage had come… Chronicles of another century, « Divination » brings an expressionist sight of the strange, some ferocity and disenchantment. The theme of the film is perversion… The monster is not always the one who looks like it … The Doctor we discover at the end of the film, the only normal man of the troop, reveals himself much more monstruous than the creatures born from his terrible experiences ! Casting of choice with Féodor Atkine, who was in the last movie from Oliver Stone, « Alexander ». An eclectic actor, who has worked with great directors : from Woody Allen to Andrei Zulawski passing by Pedro Almodovar, Michel Audiard, Sidney Pollack, Eric Rohmer or Claude Lelouch. The actress Sophie Renoir, a fetish actress of the director Eric Rohmer and who currently plays in the movie « Espace Détente ». Olivier Sitruk who we can see on TV in "Jeff et Léo, flics et jumeaux" Arsène Jiroyan whose last play " Arsène Jiroyan fait son Jean-Claude Tergal " was a big success. To support the script, the acting direction is modern and has rhythm. Laurent Germain Maury (First price at the festival "The Best French Short-films" with « Diesel Nostalgie ») shoots in High Definition. Numerous numeric effects will be required to improve the set and increase the atmosphere. The director has already worked in HD on his previous short film ; for him « this medium brings an extraordinary visual bright and a real suppleness in the shooting».
